Anatomy of the jaw revisited with a dental CT software program.

چکیده

The jaw has traditionally been evaluated by dentists and oral surgeons using conventional panoramic and intraoral films. Recently, CT software programs specifically developed to evaluate dental implant patients have provided radiologists with a new look at the mandible and maxilla. The anatomy seen on these reformatted panoramic and cross-sectional images is complex, and our objective is to define it. By the use of standard anatomic drawings, mandibular and maxillary anatomy was identified on human skulls and then on the axial, cross-sectional, and panoramic DentaScan images of these skulls. With this anatomic description, the DentaScans from several representative patients were then used to portray mandibular and maxillary anatomy in a pictorial fashion.

Odontogenic cysts: improved imaging with a dental CT software program.

PURPOSE To evaluate a dental CT software program to determine whether it can provide a better means of assessing odontogenic cysts, lesions of the jaw derived from dental epithelium, than conventional techniques (orthopantomographic, intraoral, and mandibular films), which are of limited usefulness because of the curved configuration of the mandible; and to provide a brief review of these lesio...

In vitro Evaluation of the Relationship between Gray Scales in Digital Intraoral Radiographs and Hounsfield Units in CT Scans

Background: Jaw bone quality plays an essential role in treatment planning and prognosis of dental implants. Regarding several available methods for bone density measurements, they are not routinely used before implant surgery due to hard accessibility. Objective: An in vitro investigation of correlation between average gray scale in direct digital radiographs and Hounsfield units in CT-Scan pro...

Comparative evaluation of dental computed tomographic software program in the analysis of jaw lesions in comparison with panoramic radiographs

Dental radiology has long played an exciting and critical diagnostic role in dentistry. Recent decades have seen the development of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine and ultrasonography imaging modalities that have revolutionized dental and medical diagnosis. 1 Despite the development of these novel imaging modalities, the role of conventional radiogra...

Cone Beam CT Evaluation of the Bony Changes in the Temporomandibular Joint and the Association with the Clinical Symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders

Introduction: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are among the most prevalent abnormalities of the jaw, which affect the masticatory system, including the muscles, TMJ, and tendons. Clinical examination alone cannot determine the cause of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). In most cases, the cause of TMD and a proper treatment plan are determined based on imaging modalities. The present stu...
